In the span of 6 weeks, students will be guided on their journey of learning robotic process automation tools to begin automating their own processes. Throughout their learning, students with will be paired with mentors in the automation industry for guidance and support.
All participants are given a comprehensive learning plan and a free license to learn robotic process automation
Workshops and office hours will be hosted to answer questions and ensure student learning progress

Who can participate?
Any student at the University of Toronto is welcome to register for the challenge! This includes undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students, as well as students enrolled in certificate programs and the School of Continuing Studies.
What is this challenge about?
This challenge introduces participants to Robotic Process Automation and subsequently challenges them to automate a given problem.
How long will this event take place?
The challenge will run for 6 weeks — 3 weeks learning RPA, and 3 weeks solving the automation challenge given. Support and guidance from mentors, as well as drop-in office hours, will be provided for all students who need it for the duration of the 6 weeks.
What is Robotic Process Automation (RPA)?
RPA is a software technology that makes it easy to build, deploy, and manage software robots that emulate human actions interacting with digital systems and software. Just like people, software robots can do things like understand what’s on a screen, complete the right keystrokes, navigate systems, identify and extract data, and perform a wide range of defined actions.
Do I need to have experience with RPA to join?
Nope! The challenge welcomes beginners and we will guide you through the entire process of learning the software with a comprehensive 3-week lesson plan, along with support from mentors and our team.
How will we communicate with mentors and with each other?
We will be releasing a link to a Discord server for all participants before the kick-off event on February 15th. All communications with the planning team, mentors, and other challenge participants will take place within this server.

Yes! All participants will receive a participation package, and the top 3 winners will receive extra special prizes — more details to follow!
What happens after signing up?
After signing up to be a challenge participant, you’ll hear back from us in the upcoming weeks. Signing up does not necessarily secure your spot in the challenge — rather, it provides you with a chance to be chosen as 1 out of 32 accepted participants and placed in a team of 4. In total, there will be 8 teams of 4 students each, totaling the 32 participants. We will be creating the teams.
RPA can automate data collection and processing, as well as schedule patient appointments based on diagnosis, patient location, and availability of doctors
RPA can automate sending emails and file invoices, dispatch processes, and digitize paperwork to provide inventory managers with real-time data about inventory levels
RPA can issue offer letters, guide orientation, send emails and documents to the new employee, and verify their information
